GP14 Open Meeting

Sunday 8th August

Sunday Morning – Race 1. Overcast sky, showers and gusty winds F4-5 made it difficult for all but the leading boats causing 4 of the 21 starters to capsize and retire. Neil Hardie and Nikolai Metherell from Frensham Pond established an early lead from local Poole hope, Matt Burge and Jez Nickols and held it with Mike Arrow and Ian Aitkin 3rd.

Martin Murphy & Sue Cook proving that capsizing is fun

Sunday Afternoon – Race 2 - Still overcast but lighter winds, now only F2-3 and more suited to Matt & Jez and a first place kept the game alive.

Race 3 - Even lighter winds now but with everything resting on this race Matt & Jez thought their chances were gone when they oversailed a repositioned windward mark. Neil & Nikolai took their chances and led from start to finish but an incident on the start line came back to haunt them and went to protest.

The protest against them was upheld by the protest committee and Matt & Jez who finished second were promoted to first with Andy & Alison MacGregor (Poole) 2nd with Neil Hardie and Nikolai Metherell from Frensham Pond  finishing 3rd.
