The GP Picnic (Sat 31st
July ‘99)
|
|
A perfect summers day it
was. We launched just after mid-day with six GeePees sailing round the islands,
flotilla style, under the careful eye of Graham Chase and his fellow Softies in
the club launch, Safety 3.
Anchoring up, inside
Shell bay we ferried the Softies in the Launch, to the beach. It was Picnics
out and Light the Bar-B time as we settled ourselves for the
afternoon.
As the smell of the Hot
Dogs & Onions wafted round, so the extra Bangers went on.

The
traditional Tug – O – War proved quite exhausting so David and Celia’s “Boule
Championships” went down well and great fun with minimum effort in the
afternoon sun.
|
|
“Time
to go home” time, caused the same “ferrying the Softies in the launch
problems” but we managed it and set sail for home. Spinnakers up. All
together. Great fun this sailing and then the wind died. Ten minutes of backward
sailing in the tide was enough as Graham in the launch rounded us up and towed
us back to the club.
We had a great
afternoon, so lucky with the weather and look forward to next year and by the
way, we take back everything we said about Graham and his Softies.
