CLUB RACING NEWS - 1999

With our sailing season nearly over and just a couple of Sunday Autumn races left, Richard Lane has produced another fine set of statistics for us to ogle over. Turnouts were quite good with us reaching 15 boats in the last race of the summer.

Competition has been good throughout the fleet with it becoming increasingly difficult to finish in the top six. The Two Annies (better known behind their backs as The Girlies) have gone like a train this year and must surely be worth a mention. That man Harlow cleared up by winning most of the series, “Well done Pete!” but special congratulations to Andy Welch for flying the flag for the rest of us by snatching the Spring Thursdays from him.

The Sunday morning Trophy Races had a different story as Pete now likes a lay in, so it’s been Open Season down there with some new kids on the block. The Bournemouth Pier Race went to Den Valentine and Stuart Cutler, followed by The Round the Islands going to Graham Wallen and Andy Cake. In the most testing conditions, Andy Welch and Peter Carswell clinched the Studland Race and a Swanage race which took us all the way to Latch, Oyster, 67, was won by Tony Moore.
Prize-giving for this lot takes place in the new year. See you there.
